Crochet, craft that arises in the 19th century out of a
form of chain-stitch embroyde done by using hook instead of a needle.
In crochet work the hook is used, to make a
superstructure of looped and interlinked chains of thread. In the late 1840s
crochet was introduced into Ireland as a famine relief measure.
In the 18th century, ribbon made
materials are so expensive than the crochet products. In Europe, some
communities use crochet products to identify their unique social status, which
only indicate that they can afford crochet products.
The craft
of crocheting just requires less expensive supplies and materials, which are
commonly hooks of different size, threads and yarns that can be purchased from
nearby markets.
Many assume that the craft of crocheting and knitting evolved in countries
like China, Saudi Arabia, Brazil & other like countries. They have come up
with this theory because of the cultural tradition used by the people of these
countries.
In the early age of
imperialism, the art was exercised in the western part of Europe & they
recognized crocheting as the main source of livelihood.
A person can use a variety of yarns and threads that are used to make a
crochet product. There are different qualities and colors he may choose
depending on the type of pattern or design that he want to create.
There are various types of yarns that are in the market nowadays. He may
find baby/fingering, worsted weight, chunky, sport/baby, wool, silk and the
bulky types of yarns, which are commonly used in crocheting and knitting.
Yarns are usually labeled by their types in order to differentiate the
yarns' quality. This helps in identifying which specific yarn would be suitable
for a particular crochet products.

Although some people only
work on crochet products for their own pleasure and satisfaction for finishing
a particular pattern, but other people still find it helpful in applying their
skills to generate income and better livelihood.
