CROCHET GUIDE:

Crochet, craft that arises in the 19^th century out of a form of chain-stitch embroyde done by using hook instead of a needle.

                                                                                          In crochet work the hook is used, to make a superstructure of looped and interlinked chains of thread. In the late 1840s crochet was introduced into Ireland as a famine relief measure.

 

CROCHETING & ITS ORIGIN

In the 18^th century, ribbon made materials are so expensive than the crochet products. In Europe, some communities use crochet products to identify their unique social status, which only indicate that they can afford crochet products.

                                     The craft of crocheting just requires less expensive supplies and materials, which are commonly hooks of different size, threads and yarns that can be purchased from nearby markets.

                                                                         Many assume that the craft of crocheting and knitting evolved in countries like China, Saudi Arabia, Brazil & other like countries. They have come up with this theory because of the cultural tradition used by the people of these countries.
                         

                                                                      In the early age of imperialism, the art was exercised in the western part of Europe & they recognized crocheting as the main source of livelihood.

 Most royalties consider wearing a crochet product a wealth and power. During this era, crocheting and knitting became the pleasure of many people. This era gave birth of creating very good crochet crafts and designs.

             

A person can use a variety of yarns and threads that are used to make a crochet product. There are different qualities and colors he may choose depending on the type of pattern or design that he want to create.

                                                                                      There are various types of yarns that are in the  market nowadays. He may find baby/fingering, worsted weight, chunky, sport/baby, wool, silk and the bulky types of yarns, which are commonly used in crocheting and knitting.

                                                        Yarns are usually labeled by their types in order to differentiate the yarns' quality. This helps in identifying which specific yarn would be suitable for a particular crochet products.
 

Here are some other supplies and material aside from the yarn that are needed to create particular crochet products:

 

·        The knitting needles are very compulsory in crocheting. They are usually straight aluminum, wooden and plastic made materials. They can be availed in different sizes from 2 millimeters up to 15 millimeters.

                                                                                                   They are purchased in pairs. Their designs are made for preventing the needle to slide when it is left on the unfinished crochet product.

 

·        Next is the crochet hook that is used in catching the loops of thread used in crocheting. It also used in drawing the stitches made from loosening and sliding from the chain stitches.

                                           It is also available in aluminum, plastic, and wooden made materials. The wooden made crochet hooks are the commonly used in doing a crocheting because it is easier for the fingers handle and is also considered as the most affordable item.

 

·        The pattern diagram is also much essential in creating a crochet product. It is the guide on how to follow the instructions and outline of the design.

                                                                                                                              Most patterns are usually easy to follow. For most beginners, there are patterns, which are more basic, easy and simple. They are especially designed for beginners to practice and understand simple patterns of crochet products.

 

·        The basic crocheting instructions such as books and magazines.

               

  There are instructional diagrams that can be used in case someone would like to choose other designs on how to make a crochet hat, crochet pillow, crochet scarf, crochet bag, crochet frock or booties etc and other items that can be possibly made in crochet.

·        There are also special other supplies that are needed in making special crochet products. Lace made, Ribbon and doilies are required to be worked on using stainless steel or metal crochet hooks.

Crochet Products are mostly made for the pleasure of creating beautiful patterned designs and variety of products.

                                                                              They may be displayed and shown in exhibits especially if the tools and supplies that were used are certified crochet materials. The price of the crochet product may also depend on hard work, and material used by a person.

 

Although some people only work on crochet products for their own pleasure and satisfaction for finishing a particular pattern, but other people still find it helpful in applying their skills to generate income and better livelihood.
